چکیده

Four mature rumen and abomasal cannulated wethers were used in a 2 x 2 reversal experiment to study the effect of forage quality on daily quantity of abomasal protein and microbial protein synthesis. Diets were either high quality [HOo 16.4% crude protein (CP)] or low quality (LOo 9.3% CP) Coastal bermudagrass which provided 110.7 and 58.3 g CP intake daily, respectively. Non-ammonia CP reaching the abomasum daily was 99.6 g for HQ and 79.6 g for LQ, resulting in a 10% loss of CP from diet to the abomasum with the HQ diet. Conversely, there was a 36.5% gain in CP between the diet and abomasum with the LQ diet. The sulfur amino acids (methionine and cystine) were the only essential amino acids which were increased (P<.01) during rumen fermentation by the wethers fed the HQ diet. All individual essential amino acids, except arginine, and total essential amino acids were increased 2.0 to 2.5 times during passage of the LQ diet to the abomasum (P<.01). All nonessential amino acids, except proline, and total non-essential amino acids increased from the diet to the abomasum (P<.O1) with the low quality diet. Based on the recovery of diaminolSimelic acid from the abomasal digesta, microbial protein synthesized daily was 38.8 g on the HQ diet and 30.8 g on the LQ diet. Approximately 43.6 and 62.3% of the protein from the HQ and LQ bermudagrass diets, respectively, apparently escaped degradation in the rumen. (

Supplementary Protein for Low Quality Bermudagrass Diets and Microbial Protein Synthesis

Ruminal and abomasal cannulated mature wethers were fed 800 g daily of low quality bermudagrass (49 days of age, containing 8.6% crude protein) and used in a 4 x 4 latin square experiment to study the effects of different protein supplements on the daily quantity of protein and amino acids reaching the abomasum and on rumen microbial protein synthesis. Treatments were as follows: (1) control (l...

Digestibility, microbial protein synthesis, rumen and blood parameters in sheep fed diets containing hydroponic barley fodder

This experiment was conducted to determine the possibility of replacing part of the barley grain by hydroponic barley fodder (HBF), and evaluating its effect on digestibility, rumen parameters, microbial protein synthesis and blood parameters in sheep. Four male Kermani sheep, 18-month-old (34.7 ± 1 kg live weight) were randomly assigned to a change over 4 × 4 design and fed the experimental di...

Effect of intake and forage level on ruminal turnover rates, bacterial protein synthesis and duodenal amino acid flows in sheep.

Four Suffolk wethers (avg wt 65 kg) with ruminal and duodenal cannulae were fed diets containing 75% (75F) or 25% (25F) alfalfa hay at two levels of intake, 1,700 (high intake, HI) or 1,100 (low intake, LI) g dry matter (DM)/d, in a 4 • 4 Latin-square design. When fed 75F diets, wethers had higher (P<.05) ruminal pH and molar proportion of acetate in ruminal fluid than when fed 25F. Ruminal flu...

Effect of Dietary Crude Protein Level on UT-B Expression and Nitrogen Efficiency in Growing Baluchi Male Lambs Fed Low or High Concentrate Diets

An experiment was carried out to evaluate how interactions between forage to concentrate ratio and dietary crude protein level may alter nitrogen efficiency and UT-B expression in growing Baluchi male lambs. Four Baluchi male lambs [30 ± 2 kg BW] were used in a 4 × 4 latin square design with 28-d periods and a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement of dietary treatments. The treatments fed forage: concent...
